Mills' Instrument Rental   $75 per year  (Mrs. Mills has a limited supply of trumpets, clarinets, flutes, and trombones available to rent)

Personal Instrument Cost

The price of a personal instrument will vary greatly.  Anywhere from $100 to over $8,000.  This depends on the instrument and model.  A director can help you in this process! You might be able to find a good price on Facebook Marketplace or a pawn shop for used instruments.  I personally have bought several horns this way, but I know the brands to buy and how to inspect them before purchasing.  It is important to have a director look at a used horn before it is bought because it may need an overhaul or complete pad repair, which can be quite costly.  After meeting with a director and deciding your instrument, if you decide to purchase one, please refer to the Approved and Unapproved Instrument List so that you do not purchase a brand that will cost you more in the long run!   Students can be clumsy.  Instruments will need repair work now and then. The off brands cannot be repaired at the repair shop! We can't stress the importance of NOT buying a cheap off brand instrument. DO NOT, under any circumstances, purchase an instrument from Amazon, Walmart, Sam's Club, or other retail store.

Swicegood Music in Nederland offers good prices on rent to own instruments and they do a great job servicing the horn if any problems arise.

Personal Supplies Cost

Each beginner student will purchase their own band book ($12) and instrument care kit ($15-$25).  Brass  players will need to purchase their own mouthpiece  ($35-$95) if  i.o.s.t. does not have one to rent.  Woodwind players will supply their own reeds (approx. $27 a box).

band trips

Every other year, the concert band attends a festival and competition for an overnight band trip.  We fundraise for this fun, memory making musical event.  Students will have the opportunity to raise every dollar needed.
