"Band was a God-send, eight years ago. My oldest two children played from middle school through their senior year, both receiving the John Philip Sousa Award. My daughter had opportunities to participate in TMEA Region Band, a competition in San Antonio, and loved helping the beginner students. Thanks to band, she plans to pursue a degree in music. We have been beyond blessed to be a part of this program!" - Amanda Smith, parent
"The band program is led by directors who care about their students and encourage them to be better each week. My son, Caleb, is always excited to show me new things on his trumpet. He loves practicing at home and making music with his friends on Mondays. We have recommended this band to friends for years and will continue to do so!
Studies show that participating in band helps teamwork, leadership, social skills and work ethic. I'm sure these things are true across the board but for my homeschooled student, band has the additional benefit of getting to know and growing closer to like minded friends." - Tammy Rhodes, parent
"I love getting to see my friends every week and learning to play my instrument. Everyone is very encouraging, and Mrs. Mills is very good at teaching us and still letting us have fun!" - Caleb Rhodes, high school trumpet player
"My name is Olivia, and I've been in band for two years. I moved up to Concert Band in December. I like being in band because it teaches me a new skill I can be really good at and because I can tell people I play an instrument. It just sounds cool. I like band because I get to make new friends and go to competitions every other year. I also just love music!! : ) " Olivia, junior high trumpet player
"I'm so thankful for Stones Crying Out Band and all who give so much of their time and energy encouraging these students! .... Zach has been excited about begin first chair! I so much enjoyed the Star Wars theme song!!!" MaryAnne Owens, parent
"I really enjoy band. It's a good atmosphere for learning and the students help each other. Mrs. Mills is a knowledgable musician." - Micah Murray, junior high trombone player
"My name is Abigail and I've been in band for one year. I like telling people I play an instrument because it sounds impressive! I like learning new songs and making new friends." Abigail, beginner trombone player
"Hi, my name is Laurel. I began as a 4th grader and I'm now a senior! This band program has blessed me so much throughout the years through its nurturing and encouraging atmosphere, wonderful teachers and fellow bandmates. Throughout my time participating , I have attended a band trip to Six Flags San Antonio and SeaWorld San Antonio both of which will be a core memory of mine. As a homeschooler, this team setting is a comfort zone to me. I feel like relationship building is prioritized and it makes it so easy to connect with the band students and my individual percussion section. I'm so thankful for the memories made and the opportunity to have participated in this program." Laurel, senior percussion player
"My name is Harper Forse and I've been playing the cello for 6 years. Three years ago, I joined the Stones Crying Out Band and I have grown so much as a musician because of it. I have learned so much about music theory, matching pitch, playing with a group and even how to march. If I ever have a hard time with a concept, someone is always there to explain it to me or work with me individually. I am always encouraged and excited about making music with the students in the ensemble." Harper Forse, senior cello player
